We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional to lead the procurement and operational activities related to steel. This role involves overseeing supplier development, internal processes, and continuous improvement initiatives, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel sourcing, cost management, and technical product knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and review procedures related to steel operations within the department.
- Validate existing procedures and define new ones when necessary.
- Manage the department’s budget, focusing on cost efficiency in steel sourcing.
- Coordinate and lead internal audits related to procurement and inventory control.
- Identify, develop, and evaluate steel suppliers on a periodic basis.
- Manage client–supplier relationships, ensuring effective communication and performance.
- Follow up on open purchase orders, RPSs, invoices, and steel-related transactions.
- Supervise quotation requests and authorize purchase orders for steel and related materials.
- Train and coach team members to support continuous improvement within the department.
- Monitor training and development needs of personnel.
- Promote a positive work environment and employee engagement initiatives.
- Act as a coach and mentor for the development of key roles and responsibilities.
- Stay current with industry trends, certifications, and best practices in the steel sector.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in steel procurement and operational processes.
- Provide interdepartmental support when needed, especially regarding steel materials.
- Actively participate in organizational committees and improvement programs.
- Adhere to and promote company values, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure follow-up and resolution of audit findings and compliance requirements.
Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in steel procurement, operations, or supply chain.
- Proven experience with steel suppliers, product specifications, and industry norms (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
- Strong knowledge of steel grades, applications, and quality standards.
- Experience managing budgets and cost reduction strategies in the steel industry.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement platforms.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Experience in internal audits, continuous improvement, and process optimization.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- English proficiency is a plus (if working with international suppliers or teams).
