Credit and Collection Manager


Objective of the Position:

The Credit and Collection Manager has the essential role of developing and managing a comprehensive credit and collections program aimed to optimize KWS's cash flow and finances. This position is responsible for assessing credit risks with clients; by analyzing the financial situation of each customer, making decisions about credit applications, payment terms, customer deposits, credit limits, etc. The manager will design and implement processes that increase cash flow efficiency, monitor past due accounts, negotiate collections, and identify collection opportunities through legal expertise. This position also ensures that KWS's credit and collection policies are followed by sales representatives and customer service.


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finances or related area.
  • 3 years of experience as a credit and collections manager, with leadership training.
  • Knowledge of Mexican commercial credit and collection laws, as well as contracts, promissory notes, purchase orders, and other credit and collection documents.

Experience and Training:

  • Proficient in analyzing the financial situation of clients to determine credit limits in Mexico. (analysis of financial statements, balance statements, cash flow statements, equity statements, liquidity and operating margin)
  • Experience with banks, financial credit insurance and attorneys to carry out collections.

Knowledge, Capacity and Skills:

  • Ability to handle and organize information with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficient in collection and negotiation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, (word, excel, outlook and power point).
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret changes in Mexican commercial laws and regulations, official gazette of the federation and business information.
  • Ability to make presentations in public, answer questions about current AR status.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to proactively analyze and manage customer receivables within due dates.
  • Ability to travel within Mexican territory to carry out collection activities.
  • Conversational English preferred.

Activities/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigate and verify the financial situation and prestige of prospective customers for the entity in Mexico from credit application review, financial statements, prepare documents to corroborate information, and make the recommendation of a rejection or approval of credit applications.
  • Establish credit limits on customer accounts in Mexico and manage special agreements and variations of payment terms taking into consideration the bank's credit terms rules on the basis of the loan and data entry A/R insurance information in the KWS’s system. Write down and file when policies and procedures have been overridden by the V.P. or Manager of Mexico.
  • Responsible for the investigation and possible legal action and collection of worthless checks and delinquent accounts in Mexico.
  • Responsible for contacting customers, either directly or through sales representatives, for payments of delinquent accounts in Mexico.
  • Review Mexico's collection reports to confirm collection status and outstanding balances and evaluate the effectiveness of current collection policies and procedures.
  • Audit delinquent customers in Mexico; Accounts considered uncollectible to ensure that maximum effort has been made before assigning bad status to an account and assigning it to attorneys.
  • Responsible for properly enforcing collection procedures, including court filings, UCC information, and debt documentation.
  • Send delinquent accounts to the attorney in Mexico or to the foreign company for collection when deemed uncollectible with the authorization of our EVP, VP of Finance and the Mexico Sales Manager.
  • Establish and update credit information for KW's customers in Mexico, including Cash Sales accounts when necessary.
  • Maintain customer account information integrity and confidentiality.
  • Review the compliance of signatures on delivery remittances and promissory notes.
  • Assist customers in Mexico with billing needs.
  • Prepare KW Mexico customer statements monthly and service charges Mexico Credit and Collection Manager.
  • Review possible errors in KW-Mexico's invoices, for example posting on cash account, collection in cash sales or pre-purchase before invoicing, etc.
  • Resolve short bill payments for KW-Mexico with Sales Representatives and Customers.
  • Maintain communication with sales representatives, credit managers in Mexico, Associations and Credit Information Companies in Mexico, to exchange information and update controls.
