Position Summary
The Junior Systems Engineer supports the design, deployment, and maintenance of AWS cloud infrastructure, while driving efficiency through workflow automation. The role plays a key part in cost optimization, access control, and third-party application management, ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient operations.
In addition, the Junior Systems Engineer is here to support the business and development teams by enabling faster, more reliable development and deployment processes, ensuring that infrastructure and automation empower—not hinder—innovation.
This position works in close partnership with DevOps, Security, and Application Support teams and reports directly to the Vice President of Infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure (AWS)
- Provision, configure, and maintain AWS resources such as EC2, EKS, Lambda, and S3 resources.
- Support monitoring, scaling, and patching of workloads.
- Assist in disaster recovery (DR) planning and backup validation.
- Automation (Workflow Orchestration)
- Build and maintain automation workflows to streamline operational tasks (e.g., ticket handling, notifications, reporting).
- Identify and propose automation opportunities across AWS, SaaS apps, and internal processes.
- Document workflows, integrations, and procedures to ensure maintainability.
- Security & Access Control
- Manage IAM roles, groups, and policies in line with least-privilege principles.
- Support and maintain access control for internal systems and third-party applications.
- Escalate and remediate security incidents in collaboration with the Security team.
- Cost Optimization
- Monitor AWS utilization and generate cost reports.
- Partner with DevOps and FinOps stakeholders to identify idle or underutilized resources.
- Contribute to monthly cost reviews and support automation of cost governance reporting.
- Third-Party Application Management
- Support installation, upgrades, integrations, and troubleshooting for SaaS and third-party applications.
- Work with vendors and internal teams to ensure uptime and smooth operation.
- Integrate third-party applications with AWS and automation workflows where applicable.
- Operations & Support
- Resolve assigned tickets within SLA (access, business, and infrastructure).
- Participate in on-call rotations, responding to incidents and alerts.
- Provide root cause analysis and propose preventive measures.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain accurate documentation for infrastructure, IAM policies, automation workflows, and processes.
- Contribute to runbooks, wikis, and onboarding/training material.
- Share knowledge with peers and promote cross-team collaboration.
