ISP Track & Field coach Role Profile


Purpose of Role

The purpose of the Track and Field Coach role is to support students in developing their athletic abilities across a variety of track and field events while fostering discipline, resilience, and teamwork. The coach helps student-athletes grow both on and off the field by promoting healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, and commitment to academic achievement. This role contributes to the school’s mission by ensuring athletics enrich student development, school pride, and community values.

Key Responsibilities

 Plan and lead age-appropriate training sessions for track and field events, focusing on skill development, conditioning, and technique.

 Coach student-athletes during practices, meets, and competitions, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.

 Teach and reinforce the values of sportsmanship, respect, and inclusivity, in line with the school’s values and code of conduct.

 Support student-athletes in balancing academic responsibilities with training and competition schedules.

 Monitor progress and provide individualized guidance to help students reach their athletic potential.

 Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and school staff about student progress, expectations, and team activities.

 Ensure student safety and well-being during practices, meets, and travel.

 Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages participation and school spirit.


Skills: 

Strong knowledge of track and field events, techniques, rules, and training methods.

 Ability to coach and motivate athletes across different disciplines and skill levels.

 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.

 Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet diverse student needs.

 Strong organizational and time-management skills for practices, meets, and school coordination.

 Ability to serve as a positive role model, demonstrating integrity, fairness, and respect.

Qualifications:

 Previous experience coaching or participating in track and field (school, club, or higher level).

Experience: 

Ability to manage mixed-ability groups and adapt coaching to different learning needs.

 Experience collaborating with teachers, parents, and school staff to support student participation and well-being.
