Role Purpose
The Power Markets Research Analyst will be based in our Mexico City or Rio de Janeiro office and will assist in developing and operating models, databases, and reports for our growing Americas Power and Renewables team. These responsibilities will include collecting market information/intelligence, analysing data to generate market insights, and building and improving analytical models to support market forecasts for the Americas markets.
Main Responsibilities
- Contribute to research for Wood Mackenzie’s Long-term and Short-term Power Market Outlooks for prominent Americas markets such as the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia.
- Lead and support the development and improvement of Wood Mackenzie's proprietary models that underpin market coverage, including supply, demand and pricing forecast models and data sets within the Power & Renewables vertical.
- Support technical improvements to models, automation processes, data collection and quality control efforts with the respective data teams to enhance overall model performance and data integrity.
- Ensure alignment of our databases with official figures from local sources, namely national energy balances, energy regulatory agency reports, system and market operators, among others.
About You
- Proven interest in data analytics in the power and renewables sector, with a minimum of 2 years of industry experience.
- Quantitative background and degree (e.g., economics, finance, engineering).
- Advanced programming and software skills in Excel/VBA, Power Query, SQL and/or Python.
- A deep intellectual curiosity about the Power and Renewables sector and the wider business landscape.
- Interest in learning and developing skills in power market modelling and analysis, and conducting activities across multiple markets and power generation technologies.
- Knowledge of wholesale power market structure and its operation. Knowledge of power markets in the Americas is beneficial.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and interest in using qualitative and quantitative methods to answer market questions.
- Self-driven.
- Superb communication skills, with demonstrated ability and comfort interacting with internal teams.
- An engaging and collaborative nature, capable of connecting with colleagues, clients and industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings.

- We are a hybrid working company, and the successful applicant will be expected to be physically present in the office at least 2 days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future.

- Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones.
