Principal Analyst - Renewables Revenues Streams - North America

The Team:
The analyst is part of an established highly motivated, collaborative, and innovative team across the globe, tasked with providing clients the tools to effectively plan for clean energy procurements through power purchase agreements and unbundled renewable energy credits.
The team works to understand and distil the state of underlying fundamentals of these markets as well as key policies being proposed and implemented. We express these findings in clear way to the market and to clients. Understanding and tracking the key variables within these markets informs our outlooks and forecasts. The team develops and maintains fundamental supply/demand balances, market analysis, and price outlooks.
The analyst will also work with commercial and market engagement teams to ensure maximum value delivery to stakeholders. The team delivers analysis and insights to market participants through several mediums including periodic and special reports, data visualization platforms, conferences and events, and other customer engagement forums.
The team is part of the Energy Transition, Sustainability and Services Division at S&P Global Commodity Insights.

Responsibilities and Impact:
Power purchase agreements and renewable energy credits markets are key enablers of the energy transition. A deep understanding of these markets instruments supports developers and corporates looking to mitigate price risks and seize opportunities - to provide our clients with the tools needs to thrive amongst the change.
Further, your analytical work will support colleagues across S&P Global Commodity Insights researching and analyzing other commodity markets, as they seek to understand how the Energy Transition is impacting their own areas of expertise.

Responsibilities:
Identify, compile, and process data needed to track, monitor, and model PPAs across US, Canada and Latin America.

Provide ongoing and regular market analysis and outlooks/forecasts.

Work on updating models to derive power purchase agreements prices.

Be familiar with AI tools and comfortable with using them.

Work closely with the broader team to track and understand the dynamics around global corporate energy procurements and how they’re aligning with best industry practices, in particular GHG protocol, SBTI and RE-100 guidelines.

Deliver high-quality written and graphic content that demonstrates the expertise outlined above.

Engage with key team members in developing reports, content, and outreach with customers via calls, meetings, conferences, and events. Engage with clients through briefing and responses to inquiries. Work with commercial and market engagement teams to ensure maximum value delivery to stakeholders.

Assist in generating thought leadership around environmental markets.

What We’re Looking For:Basic Required Qualifications:
University degree in energy systems, business, economics, political science, engineering, or similar disciplines.

Strong research and analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex concepts to internal and external stakeholders of various market knowledge levels.

Team player able to collaborate across multi-cultural teams, commodities and geographies. Ability to think critically, act decisively, and deliver results.

Strong Microsoft Suite skills with an emphasis on Excel. Experience generating forecast or models demonstrating high levels of competence. Familiarity with AI techniques to generate analytics. Python programming preferred but not required. Technical abilities around organizing, analyzing and visualizing data.

Relevant industry or research work experience conducting research and/or market analysis in the energy transition, renewables energy credits, power purchase agreements. Familiarity and understanding of the corporate procurement dynamics or even direct experience with corporate procurements is particularly helpful.
