ISP Upper School Spanish Teacher Role Profile
Purpose of Role
The Upper School Spanish Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and effective Spanish language instruction to students in grades 9–12. The role aims to develop students’ proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while fostering an appreciation for Hispanic cultures. Through a dynamic and student-centered approach, the teacher supports language acquisition and intercultural competence, preparing students to communicate confidently in real-world contexts.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Spanish lessons aligned with the school’s language curriculum and standards.
- Promote the development of communicative competence in all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
- Incorporate authentic cultural materials and experiences to enrich language instruction.
- Design and implement varied assessments to monitor and support student progress.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance language learning.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate records of performance.
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school leadership about student learning and classroom activities.
- Participate in school-wide events, language department meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Encourage students to engage in extracurricular activities related to language and culture, such as language clubs, exchanges, or cultural celebrations.

Skills:
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
- Strong command of language acquisition pedagogy and strategies
- Effective classroom management and student engagement techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Creative and resourceful in lesson planning and instruction
- Ability to integrate technology into language teaching
- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, Language Education, or a related field – required
- Teaching certification/license – required
- Master’s Degree – preferred
- Training or experience with international curricula (e.g., IB, AP) – desirable
- Proficiency in English – required
- Minimum 2–3 years of teaching Spanish at the secondary or upper school level
- Experience in a bilingual, international, or multicultural school setting – preferred
- Experience designing student-centered, project-based learning activities
- Familiarity with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) or ACTFL standards – a plus
