Hybrid: This position requires to work 3 days on site 2 days at home remote on a full-time basis

Position Overview:

The Corporate Counsel will have primary responsibility of providing timely compliance advice and support to different areas of GM Mexico related to compliance program implementation, anti-corruption, anti-money laundry, competition law, code of conduct and privacy matters. It will also, participate in the implementation of strategies and controls to monitor compliance within GM Mexico to reduce risks, such as provide compliance trainings; develop policies and procedures; follow up on audit closing actions; conduct and/or support investigations; and evaluate compliance trends both internal and external.

Subject Matter Requirements:

Ability and experience to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, as described below and as modified from time to time based on GM Mexico’s diverse and evolving needs:

  • Drafts, reviews and implements policies, procedures and programs related to anti-money laundry, anti-corruption, privacy and data protection considering local and corporate legal requirements.
  • Support to the special investigations team for local investigations.
  • Attends privacy and data protection requests from customers and potential customers of GM Mexico.
  • Support the continued implementation of GM’s global privacy strategy and privacy program
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on commercial transactions with an emphasis on compliance related language
  • Performing trainings on-line and face to face on compliance and legal matters.
  • Monitor and implement new trends related to compliance matters in Mexico.
  • Perform investigations related to compliance, code of conduct and legal violations.
  • Develop investigative plans; execute and document work in accordance with professional standards, and communicate investigation results clearly and effectively to all constituencies.
  • Lead compliance due diligence efforts for suppliers, dealers and service providers performing services for GM in Mexico
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained.

Additional Job Description

Qualifications & Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years professional experience in legal and compliance matters, specifically in Anti-Corruption, Anti-Money Laundry and Privacy initiatives, and investigating and auditing processes.
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally, occasionally with minimal advance notice
  • Be “self-starting”. Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively as a team player.
  • Strong ability to maintain open, honest, and timely communication with personnel involved in investigations/projects; demonstrate high level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical, judgement, oral and written communication skills and confidence dealing with senior management concerning delicate or difficult issues.
  • Exceptional client service skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding relationships.
  • Ability to address unusual and/or difficult problems with analytical ability and problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changes, different roles, or environments.
  • Strong bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, required.
  • Experience working for a US Corporation.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of Civil and Commercial Law (mainly Contracts); FCPA and Local Anticorruption Legislation; Data Privacy Law; Anti-money Laundering Regulation.

This position requires the ability to legally operate motor vehicle on a regular basis
