Individuals at this level have a minimum of two years’ experience as a staff accountant and normally have passed the CPA or Chartered Accountant exam. Senior Accountants in Tax are expected to:
- Know and understand the reason behind the firm’s policies and procedures
- Possess technical knowledge sufficient to supervise (“coach”) staff accountants
- Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality core engagement teams (client) relationships and loyalty
- Exhibit (or develop) skills and characteristics delineated in the Firm’s evaluation forms
- Begin developing a command of pertinent IRC sections and regulations
- Become proficient at tax research including knowledge of the reference sources available to the firm
- Assume responsibility for the supervision of tax return preparation engagements
- Begin developing proficiency in tax planning
Essential Functions:
- Prepare individual, corporate and partnership tax returns of varying complexities
- Prepare quarterly and year-end estimates to assist clients with tax planning
- Demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality and application of professional and firm standards
- Know, understand and abide by the firm’s policies and procedures
- Meet time constraints and client deadlines
- Prepare other reports, projects and duties as may be assigned
- Possess technical knowledge sufficient to assist staff associates
- Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality core engagement teams (client) relationship and loyalty
- Participate in firm training courses to further develop technical skills
- Provide excellent client service by producing quality work, quick turnaround and attentive service
- Become proficient at tax research including a knowledge of the reference sources available to the firm
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with the 150 hours and must have completed all requirements to be able to sit for the CPA or Chartered Accountant exam. Masters in Tax preferred
- Actively pursuing CPA or Chartered Accountant license
- 2+ years of public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity of tax returns
- Oral/written communication skills in English
- Computer literate
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- Ability to prioritize a heavy work load and remain organized
- Ability to work well in a team environment
