POSITION SUMMARY
Marketing Technology and Data at Oportun sits at a unique intersection of marketing, engineering, and analytics. We are looking for a data-focused technologist with experience driving a marketing technology stack to support high growth initiatives. As a member of the Marketing Data and Technology team, you will play a key role in building scalable consumer marketing programs by working across the organization with the Growth & Analytics, Product Marketing, and Engineering teams. You will power how Marketing comes to life at Oportun by managing and integrating 1st party data, tracking and contact configurations, developing data flows, and shipping web or app based solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage, configure and troubleshoot all aspects of our marketing technology stack such as Oportun's customer data platform, website, and communication & activation engine
- Serve as the subject matter expert on first-party data architecture—understanding its structure, sources, and use cases across the organization.
- Drive innovation by developing monetizable first-party data use cases that deliver a competitive edge.
- Accelerate the transition away from batch marketing and toward always-on, omni-channel, dynamic marketing journeys
- Work in collaboration with the Growth Analytics, Product Marketing, and Engineering teams to identify and execute marketing performance improvements
- Help manage the data pipelines between marketing technology vendors and internal databases via API and webhooks; manage and validate JavaScript tags and image pixels to ensure proper data tracking
- Monitor trends in martech, media, and privacy to maintain compliance and inform strategic decisions.
REQUIREMENTS
- 6+ years of relevant experience in marketing technology, data strategy, marketing analytics, or data engineering. Background in financial services, marketplaces, ecommerce, or adtech agencies preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree is a plus
- Strong proficiency in SQL and JavaScript, with demonstrated ability to debug JavaScript code using browser-based developer tools, particularly Google Chrome DevTools
- Hands-on experience with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) is essential; Tealium experience is highly preferred, including tag configuration, data layer implementation, and custom extension scripting
- Familiarity with ELT workflows and data engineering practices, with exposure to modern data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake
- Hands-on experience with other Martech and analytics tools such as Iterable, Google Analytics, DOMO, GTM, Amplitude, Branch, Google Ads, and Facebook Ads
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and source control systems, particularly using GitHub, for collaborative development and version control
- Excellent cross-functional communication skills; able to work independently across teams and time zones
- Self motivated to master technology stack and collaborate with other teams
- Expertise in first-party data strategies, including identity resolution and data stitching
- Familiarity with AI-driven marketing solutions and modern martech trends
- Deep understanding of first-party marketing data solutions and identity stitching
- Understanding of and familiarity with modern marketing capabilities and AI
