ISP Deputy Head Role Profile


Purpose of Role

Reports To: School Director(s) & Head of Secondary School Section


Direct Reports: IB Teachers, CAS Coordinators, Subject Leads, Phase Leaders, Grade Leaders, Class Teachers & Teaching Assistants

Job Purpose:

To ensure that the progress of each individual ITJZE pupil is monitored, tracked and reported by staff throughout his/her school career so that he/she “Aims High” and achieves maximum potential.

The Deputy Head of Section is a member of the School Leadership Team (SLT), whose general function is to lead a specific Section within the school.

In addition, a Deputy Head Section Head is an exemplar of teaching skills, lead the improvement of teaching skills, as well as take a leadership role in developing, implementing and evaluating policies in their workplace that contribute to school improvement and Quality Assurance Framework (QAF).

As the IB Diploma Program Coordinator you will serve as the leader of the IB DP program in the Secondary School division and is responsible for the total operation of that program. The IB DP Coordinator shall provide leadership, administrative and supervisory skills for the educational development of students and staff, as well as to promote appropriate parent and community awareness.

ISP Deputy Head Key Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with Head of Section and other Deputy Heads of Section in raising expectations around ‘Amazing Learning’:

  • Reports to the School Director and ISP Regional Group as appropriate
  • Advises and consults with the School Director(s) on all aspects of the running of the Section of School especially the UNAM & IB Curriculum
  • Is a member of the School Leadership Team,
  • Work and liaise with other Section Leaders within ITJ-ZE, ITJ Schools and ISP.
  • Attends Leadership Team meetings and run and coordinate department meetings and briefings ensuring all minutes are updated and accountable.
  • Take responsibility alongside the School Director(s) for the safe recruiting of new staff and the induction and mentoring of staff.
  • Take responsibility for budget issues relevant to the Section department and at the School Director(s)’s discretion.
  • Is loyal to The School Director(s), ISP Regional Office and ISP Group in general.
  • To be responsible for the daily running of the High School in all matters academic and pastoral.


  • Overseeing the development of the section curriculum, ensuring quality and accountability of assessment and pupil progress in all subject areas and the creation and development of subject departments.
  • To ensure that all safeguarding issues are dealt with and recorded in line with policy.
  • To be accountable for increasing and sustaining student numbers across the whole school in line with annual budgets and targets.
  • To work with the Marketing & Admissions Teams for the enrolment and testing of new students.
  • To promote and develop the section and whole school image with school promotion and marketing – Representing the school in the public domain
  • To oversee and ensure the development of Teaching and Learning, student progress and data collection within the section including reporting and tracking in coordination with Subject and Phase Leaders.
  • To have the Section Team inspection ready with the continual updating of the LIP/SIP
  • Have responsibility for the staff within the team, maintaining accountability, professionalism and CPD.
  • Have responsibility for staff CPD and evaluations with the agreement of the School Director(s) and budget allocations.
  • To support, mentor and oversee PGCE, Interns and Student teachers within the Section
  • Working alongside and with the School Director(s) and the SLT to ensure whole school development.
  • To have effective communication with all members of the school community – including parents.
  • To develop and promote Student Leadership and a student voice within the Section.
  • To deliver and coordinate effective training for both the section and whole school.
  • To organise and control events for both section and whole school e.g. Prize giving and/or graduation.
  • To work with the School Director(s) on the delivering of the CTE days
  • To develop the Section & Whole School Calendar and assessment points throughout the year.
  • To ensure Professional Standards are maintained at all times and ensuring the Head of Section is a role model and leader within the school and group
  • To communicate effectively with Staff, Parents and Pupils where appropriate.
  • To prepare and evaluate termly reports alongside the Section Development Plan for the School Director(s) and ISP Board.
  • To authorise and ensure all educational visits and residential have the School Director(s)s approval and are in line with Safeguarding and SEP/UNAM requirements.

  • Use methods which will engage and stimulate students’ intellectual curiosity, including the use of effective questioning, clear presentation and effective use of resources.
  • Set high expectations for students’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of behaviour management in accordance with the rules and behaviour policy of the school.


Planning Expectations

  • Identify clear objectives, content, structures and sequences appropriate to the needs of the students.
  • Seek out and implement new ideas and innovative practice to raise achievement
  • Set appropriate expectations for students’ and help them meet expectations and deadlines.
  • Identify students who may require additional support and know where to get help in order to give positive and targeted support.
  • Develop and maintain data systems to record, track and communicate student progress and outcomes.


Assessment and Evaluation

  • Assess student’s achievements and progress in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
  • Implement methods to evaluate how well objectives are/have been achieved and adapt future guidance accordingly.
  • Monitor and report students’ performance and outcomes providing constructive feedback.


Relations with Parents and the Wider Community

  • Prepare and present informative reports and workshops to parents in a professional manner.
  • Facilitate parental engagement by providing details of how parents can assist their children.


Managing Resources

  • Select appropriate resources to support students in achieving objectives.
  • Ensure resources are managed appropriately both within classrooms and shared resource areas.


Other professional requirements

  • Support with Admissions Processes and Assessments
  • Plan, lead and facilitate ‘Parent’s University’ sessions on a termly basis

Maintain accurate Safeguarding & Health & Safety Records


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent)
  • Postgraduate training in school leadership (preferred)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • High proficiency in English (C1/C2)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership role (e.g. Head of Department, SLT)
  • Experience leading school initiatives and managing staff
  • Familiarity with school improvement planning and evaluation
  • (Optional) International or bilingual school experience
