Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Product Cost Estimator to support our Design and Sales teams. The ideal candidate will be responsible for communicating project details to and with the client/dealer, developing accurate cost estimates for custom and standard furniture pieces by creating Bills of Materials (BOMs), generating quote drawings, coordinating with vendors, and compiling cost data into organized Excel workbooks. A strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, and manufacturing processes is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain clear communication with client/dealer to ensure all parties are aligned on the product solution, project timing, and target budget.
- Develop and maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for products based on design specifications and construction methods.
- Create accurate and clear quote drawings to support vendor understanding of the product design needed for quote.
- Coordinate with vendors to request pricing and lead times for materials, components, and services.
- Organize vendor quotes and input pricing data into Excel, generating clear and accurate cost breakdowns.
- Analyze materials, freight, rep commissions, and royalties to calculate comprehensive product costs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current material costs and market trends.
- Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure alignment on specifications, pricing, and product lead times.
- Assist in cost optimization and value engineering efforts when necessary.
- Ensure all estimating documentation is complete, organized, and accessible for future reference.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual: Proficient in English for business communication.
- Proven experience in cost estimating, preferably in the furniture industry or related manufacturing field.
- Strong knowledge of furniture construction methods, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite. Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel with the ability to create complex cost models and organize large data sets.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills for client interations, vendor coordination, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- CAD or drawing software experience (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) is a plus.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 2–5 years of experience in a cost estimating or production planning role within the furniture or manufacturing industry.
