We are seeking a highly skilled Buyer with proven experience in sourcing and purchasing materials critical to manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will specialize in raw and fabricated steel, industrial cloth and MRO supplies, ensuring optimal cost, quality, and delivery performance. This role requires strong analytical, negotiation, and supplier management skills to support production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase materials including steel sheets, coils, plates, fabricated steel parts, cloth, and MRO items (tools, spare parts, consumables).
- Evaluate supplier performance on delivery, cost, quality, and service levels.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and secure supply continuity.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to ensure materials meet technical specifications and production timelines.
- Manage inventory levels and safety stock strategies to balance supply risk and carrying costs.
- Analyse market trends and commodity indices (especially steel and oil-derived materials) to forecast risks and opportunities.
- Issue purchase orders and maintain accurate records in Microsoft D365.
- Resolve supplier-related issues including delays, defects, and invoice discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships through regular reviews and visits.
- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) projects to source materials early in the design phase.
- Support continuous improvement and cost reduction projects across the supply chain.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- +5 years of experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
- Deep knowledge of steel sourcing, metal fabrication processes, and MRO procurement.
- Experience with industrial cloth and adhesive sourcing is a strong advantage.
Skills:
- Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management.
- Knowledge of procurement best practices and sourcing strategies.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings/specifications (preferred).
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Just-in-Time (JIT) principles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in procurement (e.g., CPSM, CPIM, or PMP).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred for cross-border supplier coordination.
- Experience working with international suppliers and import/export procedures.
